Goldman Sachs Supports Breastfeeding Employees

It is not common for employers to hire courier companies for their workers who are still breastfeeding. In fact, Goldman Sachs might be one of the first companies to do so. According to the investment bank, they have employees in the United States as well as the United Kingdom that are breastfeeding mothers but because of the demand of travelling for work, these employees need to express milk instead which needs to be sent back home to their babies. The company said that they are covering the expenses incurred from courier services.

According to a report, the bank has sent out an internal memo to all the staff stating that the financial institution understands the struggle between being a parent and an employee. In an effort to make things a bit easier, offices in the United States will send out freezing kits to hotel rooms of all their workers that are currently nursing and traveling for work. A courier will then pick up the expressed milk in order to be sent back to the baby for consumption as soon as possible.

When asked regarding the report, Goldman Sachs admitted that it is true. The company also has a branch in London with around 6,000 employees and the nursing workers there will also be given the same privilege. This means that the company will reimburse the payment the mother incurred because of sending breast milk back home.

This is a good move for the company to show that it is already starting to change its culture since it was involved in a scandal before where people claim that grieving staffs are only given a break of four hours in order to mourn.

The bank is now trying to paint a new image – one that is flexible as well as family friendly. According to one of the firm’s female banker, they are given six months maternity leave with full pay, there is a designated lactation room and the headquarters in London has a daycare facility within the establishment. Aside from the women workers, courier companies are also happy with this news because they will be able to service more individuals from the firm.
