The unspoken fact is that most people tend to avoid their orthodontist when they can, whether it’s an orthodontist in Exton or anywhere else. However, orthodontists have reported that they’ve become more popular recently, with adults paying thousands to get better oral health.
According to the British Orthodontic Society (BOC), the number of adults that go for orthodontic treatment in the UK is not only staying high, but going up. 75% of orthodontists in the UK report an increase in adult patients. This increase is notable due to the fact that orthodontic treatments in the UK, like those from an orthodontist in Exton, costs thousands and can take months, even years to complete.
The survey also notes that a majority of orthodontic patients are aged between 26-55 years of age, and primarily women, but the number of men going for treatment are also increasing.
Orthodontic treatment, usually with braces, are usually done for the sake of improving the alignment, and appearance of teeth, when they’re misaligned, crooked, protruding or crowded. Usually, this treatment is done with kids, when their adult teeth has started to pop out, which usually happens around the age of 12.
Cookstown, Tyrone County dentist Marc Slevin says that he’s also noticed the rise in adults looking for braces, with people coming back for second treatment.
He explains that a lot of these patients had braces in their youth, or other similar situations, and the issue with their teeth have come back in a way that they feel need to be dealt with, maybe due to the fact that they neglected to maintain their oral health, or some incident happened. The other patients, aged in their 50s and 60s, meanwhile, are seeking patients for the first time.
He points to social media as a potential factor as to why people are now more conscious about their smile, as people get judged for their smiles on the internet.
More and more people are seeing orthodontic treatment and braces as socially acceptable, with many people saying that they’ve noticed people that they know getting braces for their teeth. They also noted that the price, and the discomfort associated with the treatments, don’t discourage people.
