Trade And Investments Between The US And Canada

The economic and investment relationship between the US and Canada supports millions of jobs for both countries through direct foreign investment, cross-border trade, and integrated economies. Almost one-half of the goods that the US purchases from Canada are raw materials that are needed in manufacturing. Meanwhile, Canada buys more from the US than any other country in the world.

The automotive industry is the best example of the strong relationship between the US and Canada. The industry has a highly integrated supply chain that results in nearly $110 million in bilateral trade. In both countries, there are factories specializing in specific components required in manufacturing a vehicle. When a car rolls off the assembly line, some of its components and materials have crossed the borders of the two countries multiple times during the production process.

Agriculture is another sector that has largely benefitted from the sophisticated cross-border supply chains. High-quality and safe products being purchased by Americans are more likely to have crossed the borders. For example, the lettuce and tomato on the hamburger may have come from Canada but the beef and buns may even be from both countries.

A number of trade policies between the two North American countries have been modernized to make sure that they are free and fair. The United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that replaced NAFTA will continue to support jobs and maintain free trade in North America while making sure that benefits are mutually shared.

In addition to the trade relationship, both the US and Canada have an important investment relationship. The US is the single largest investor in Canada while Canada is the largest source of foreign direct investment in the US. Canada is a most ideal place for US businesses to grow because of its stable business climate, low taxes and business costs, highly educated and skilled workforce, generous incentives for research and development, and access to global markets.

Cross-border trade in North America will not be possible without the presence of logistics and trucking providers like Titan Transline. Their reliable transportation solutions allow the seamless transport of goods on time for a highly competitive price.

Ontario Passes New Anti-Human Trafficking Legislation

Ontario’s $307-million Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy got a lot of attention from legal practitioners, like, operating in the province, with many wondering how they’ll handle such an endeavor.

On June 1, the Ontario government revealed that it passed new legislation aimed at furthering this anti-human trafficking cause; the Combating Human Trafficking Act, 2021. This new legislation introduces several amendments, as well as adding two new acts:

  • New Act: Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy Act, 2021
  • New Act: Accommodation Sector Registration of Guests Act, 2021
  • Amendments to: Child, Youth and Family Services Act, 2017
  • Amendments to: Prevention of and Remedies for Human Trafficking Act, 2017

The legislative changes are not only for protecting against traffickers, but also providing survivors with support, like restraining orders and legal help, with specific consideration for Indigenous people. They’ll also help bolster children’s aid societies and law enforcement’s efforts in protecting exploited children.

On the punishment side of things, the acts will up the penalties for anyone who interferes with a child under the care of a children’s aid society, as well as clarify when police services can access data from hotel guest registers in order to help with anti-trafficking efforts, like locating victims, while also covering other types of accommodation providers like short-term rental.

Associate Minister of Children and Women’s Issues Jill Dunlop stated that this new legislation makes the province of Ontario the first jurisdiction in the country that’s required to maintain its own anti-human trafficking strategy. This, in turn, will ensure that this crime will not be overlooked moving forward.

Dunlop added that the legislation was developed with help from survivors of trafficking and the people fighting it on the frontlines, which is why it does things like provide much-needed support for survivors and protect children.

The release also noted how human trafficking is among the fastest-growing crimes across the world, and how Ontario had the most police-reported incidents of human trafficking in Canada back in 2019, something that activists, and legal experts like have taken note of.

Additionally, the report also noted that the average age of people recruited into sex trafficking sits at around 13 years of age, and about 65% of victims identified by police are less than 25 years old.

Tips For Getting Customers To Write Reviews

There are a lot of factors that go into a customer deciding to patronize a brand. Peer opinion and social proof, remain among the most compelling, however. Most of the time when people buy from a business, they haven’t talked to a marketer or sales rep; they’ve talked or gotten an opinion from other customers.

For that reason, it’s a good idea for businesses and brands to get as many reviews as possible. Here are some things to help with that.

Picking the right moment

A customer and a business are in a relationship, no two ways about it. And just like in any other relationship, part of asking for things is knowing when to do so.

There are key moments on the customer journey, when customers are most partial to offering their opinion. These are the best times to ask for reviews:

  • When a customer finds success with the product or service
  • Immediately after purchase or re-order
  • After they tag or mention a brand on social media
  • While they’re browsing for services and products
  • After a referral

Leveraging customer happiness

When a client feels satisfied with a brand’s products and/or services, they’re not only more likely to leave a review, but offer a positive review. Brands should take note of moments of customer happiness and make the most of them.

Convenience is key

On the internet, convenience and ease of use are key, and online reviews are no different.

If brands want people to write reviews for them, then one of the most important things to do is to make it as easy and convenient as possible for customers. The more effort someone has to put into writing up king kong agency reviews, the less likely they are to go through with it.

YAHOO! Australia Launches Marketing Campaign For Search Engine

YAHOO! Australia recently launched a big marketing campaign, the YAHOO! Search for Change campaign, as part of their efforts to get a bigger slice of the pie in Australia’s digital sector, which is heavily dominated by Google.

The campaign was developed by CHE Proximity, talks about the privacy concerns of Aussies, and reminds them that they can choose what search engine they can use.

Notably, this move from YAHOO! was announced a week after Verizon announced the sale of its Verizon Media group, which includes YAHOO!, to Apollo Global Management, a global equity firm, for US$5bn. As a result of this sale, Verizon Media will be rebranded to be under the YAHOO! umbrella.

Verizon Media AUNZ Head of Consumer Marketing Imogen O’Neill says that Aussies are more conscious of how they explore the online space. YAHOO! Search, they say, has been helping users find what matters to them for decades, and that people have options when choosing a search engine that’ll help them find what they’re looking for.

O’Neill stated that it was also good to have the YAHOO! Yodel back, as it’s an iconic bit of audio, evocative of simpler times.

A giant mural by Canadian street artist James Middleton was put up in Chippendale, Sydney as part of the campaign.

With Google having the biggest slice of the AU’s search engine market, to the point that there’s practically no king kong advertising review written with other engines in mind, YAHOO!’s campaign the first of its kind in Australia and will run for 10 weeks, starting in May 2021 across different media channels, including digital out-of-home native, billboards, as well as social channels.

The Different Types Of Theft Crimes

Theft or larceny is a common crime that occurs when someone takes away someone else’s property without permission and with the intent to permanently deprive a person of the property. However, theft can also be categorized as grand theft which is a more serious offense.

Laws in some states call theft as grand theft when the property that was taken is worth more than a minimum amount set for theft like $500 to $1,000 or more, when the property of a person is taken directly through force or fear or the property is of a particular type like cars.

Keeping a lost property may qualify as theft if the finder has reasonable opportunity to return the property to its owner. For example, John keeps a $100 bill that he found while bicycling on a deserted lane. The incident is not considered as theft. However, if John sees Charles inadvertently dropping a $100 bill as he was getting out of his car, picks it up and keeps it, he is committing theft. John knows that the $100 bill belongs to Charles and he has reasonable opportunity to return the money to the owner but did not do so.

Buying or keeping property knowing that it is stolen is a crime called receiving stolen goods. In order to convict a defendant for receiving stolen goods, the government must prove that the property in the defendant’s possession has been stolen. The government’s case usually relies on circumstantial evidence or evidence that would have alerted a reasonable person that the items are stolen.

Some states classify shoplifting as merchandise theft. A person can be charged with shoplifting if he takes goods from a store without paying for them, without the consent and knowledge of the merchant and with the intention of permanently depriving the merchant of the merchandise.

There are many kinds of theft crimes. If you are charged with theft whether it is shoplifting or grand theft, your best option is to call Donich Law for legal representation. A criminal defence lawyer knows the theft laws of the state. He has experience with cases that are similar to yours and can explain properly the relevant laws and procedures.

Using The Power Of Illustrations In Advertisements

Seasoned marketers understand the need for different kinds of strategies to catch the attention of the target audience. There are many instances when marketers prefer illustrations over videos and photographs for their advertising campaigns. An illustration can convey a message in a clear and simple way.

It is easier to attract customers through images than text. Many people do not have the patience to read information about a product or service. Images are the best way to convey a message and tell a story. A simple piece of writing can be easily enhanced by drawings and images whether the objective is to tell a story or teach a lesson.

Many advertisers use catchy slogans to express a message but illustrations add more depth and complexity. A visual image is perceived by the brain quicker than words. The human brain will likely retain the image in its memory for a longer time. Anyone who is interested in a product is more likely to be attracted by the illustrations than text.

Illustrations have always been used in children’s books because it helps develop their imagination. Illustrations are created in vivid colour to help children understand words, actions, and sentences. Young readers immediately get a vision of the characters, the mood of the story, and its setting. Children who are starting to learn how to read will find the illustrations fascinating. Even simple stories can be transformed into exciting tales that can be understood by children.

If you want proof of the power of illustrations, you can look at the advertising industry. In the competitive world of retail, the ones with the best advertisements get the customer’s attention. Even individuals who are not interested in the product can be enticed by the beauty and quality of the illustrations used in the marketing campaign. People are naturally curious when they see something that catches their eye.

Custom illustrations created by Rabinky Art can be used for different purposes. They can be used alongside text for advertising campaigns. They can be used for children’s books to entertain and educate at the same time. Even children who cannot yet read can understand a story by simply looking at the illustrations.

2020 Saw A Drop In Transborder Freight Between Canada, Mexico, And The US

Bad news for companies that handle logistics and cross-border trucking like Titan Transline, a report from the US Bureau of Transportation Statistics shows that transborder freight dropped in 2020.

According to the USBTS, 2020 saw a 13.3% dip in transborder freight compared to 2019. The data was released on March 8, 2021, which is noted as following the freight moved by air and vessel, pipeline, truck, and rail, and notes the decline’s start at the onset of the coronavirus outbreak, which continued all the way to November 2020.

The data noted that transborder freight did see a slight increase of 0.4% in December 2020.

Trucking was the preferred means of transborder shipping, accounting for 65.3% ($695bn) of 2020’s $1.06tn freight total, but even it saw a drop from 2019, having gone down by 10% compared to the preceding year.

Trucks moving across the US-Canada border moved $309bn worth of freight, accounting for 58.8% of all border freight in the north, while US-Mexico cross-border trucking accounted for $386bn of freight moved between the two countries, which is 71.1% of all border freight at the southern border.

Shipments between Canada and the US went down by 9.9%, while US-Mexico freight saw a 10.1% decline.

The busiest truck border ports in 2020 were:

  • Laredo, Texas ($163bn)
  • Detroit ($95bn)
  • Buffalo-Niagara Falls, New York ($51bn)

These three truck border ports combined accounted for 44.6% of the transborder truck freight of the entirety of 2020.

The most common truck commodities for 2020, accounting for 48.3% of the year’s total, were:

  • Computers and parts ($136bn)

  • Motor vehicles and parts ($89bn)

Trucking was the most commonly-used option for US-Canada transborder shipments for 2020, followed by rail ($79bn), pipeline ($48bn), air ($32bn), then vessel ($20bn).

Notably, the overwhelming majority (99.4%) of all the pipeline freight that moved between the US and Canada were mineral fuels, like gas and oil. Most of these travelled via the pipelines that linked Canada and Midwestern US.

US-Mexico transborder shipments were dominated by trucking ($386bn), with rail ($70bn) following at a distant second.

The data from the USBTS’s release does not have adjustments for inflation or seasonal changes.

Tiktok Getting Serious About Targeted Ads

Starting April 15, TikTok will be more aggressive about ad targeting, with changes to the platform’s ad policies, and users will have fewer options to opt-out from these.

Recode reported that users won’t be able to opt out of all targeted ads, as the ones based on the data TikTok collects from their time on the app, with the exception being people in the EU, who are protected by the EU’s GDPR.

TikTok noted, however, that this change in policy isn’t new, as it’s only in line with what Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat have. The social media platform stated how its competition provides users no way to opt out of targeted ads based on their activities on those platforms.

Recode, however, pointed out that Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat allow for users to delete whatever interests have been assigned to them by the platforms, while TikTok does not.

TikTok stated that they’ll continue to be transparent about their data privacy policies, and are happy to help their users understand their privacy choices via their Safety Centre.

The social media platform didn’t say what led to this change, but many are pointing out that this came at the same time Apple is getting ready to roll out an update for iOS14 that will require apps to get permissions from users for cross-app tracking, which is a big source of revenue for mobile apps, and a big source of data about mobile app users.

Notably, other platforms have also been pushing for targeted ads via changes to privacy policies or asking users outright, like what Instagram’s doing. It’s expected that the update from Apple will shake up the mobile app and the digital marketing market, so it’s being watched closely by the people invested in a king kong agency review and most people on the internet.

The data showed how all ad categories in Australia went up for the second quarter in a row, with the industry finally recovering following the decline in early 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

IAM Australia CEO Gai Le Roy noted how digital ad saw a comeback in the second half of 2020, particularly in December, with marketer demand doing well across all categories, attributing it to delayed marketing expenditure, increased online activity, and news of a vaccine combined with the traditional upsurge the holiday season brings.

  • General display went up by 26.8%, while search went up by 21.1%
  • Display saw its share of all Australian digital ad expenditure go up to 41% from 39%, with all display formats seeing increase

  • CY 2020 saw digital ad investment total to $9.5bn, a 2% increase from CY 2019
  • Search advertising went up by 2.8%, supported by digital video investment going up by 17.2%

The rebound that the digital marketing industry is seeing is good for people invested in things like a king kong advertising review, showing that there is a silver lining to the pandemic cloud.

A Few Types Of Illustrations Worth Knowing

People think about certain things whenever they hear the word ‘illustration’. Some people think of drawings that act as precursors to animations, and the like. While not entirely wrong, it’s a gross oversimplification, as illustration works well as an umbrella term for different kinds of art.

What is an illustration?

Illustrations are all about telling a story. That’s why things like an Editorial Illustration are commonly accompanied by text, as illustrations are useful in providing better comprehension. With the development of technology, there are more ways to be an illustrator.

The idea behind illustrations is to make an image that communicates a message, though the presentation varies wildly.

Kinds of illustrations

Pencil illustrations

One of the classic types of illustrations, paper and pencil is the traditional manner with which a lot of people start with. There’s a lot of variation with the paper and pencil that can be used, though the general techniques are relatively standard.

Pencil illustrations are often taught in art classes and are commonly used for practice. Thanks to the fact that this particular style uses common tools, this is one of the cheaper kinds of illustration and a great starting point.

A bit more unusual, lithography isn’t that particularly well-known but seen a lot. Lithography is unique due to the fact that it utilizes a specialized surface, like metal, in order to create the illustration, with the idea being printing on a surface where they can control where the ink goes.

Traditionally, this used oil and more messy products, but now it uses hydrophobic substances. It was historically used to create and copy play scripts.

Digital illustrations

Modern advancements in technology have allowed for digital illustrations, making it easier for people to make something like an Editorial Illustration and the like. This one covers any illustration that’s made with digital tools.

There’s a lot of devices and software that can be used for this one, with some opting for digital drawing tablets. Regardless, the idea is drawing illustrations with the use of a digital platform.

This particular kind is growing in popularity thanks to the fact that the tools needed are becoming increasingly easy to buy and use. It’s good for correcting errors and accommodating different styles, with capabilities expected to grow in variety and range with time.
